Holiday Dress Codes

Are you having trouble deciphering dress codes on your party invitations? If so, keep this list of party definitions handy and you'll always be appropriately dressed.
* Black tie - this means a tuxedo for men and long cocktail dresses or dressy evening seperates for women.
* Formal - usually means the same as black tie
* White tie - ultra formal. Men wear full dress with white tie, vest, and shirt. Women wear long evening gowns.
* Black tie optional - men have the option of wearing a tuxedo and women have the option of a formal or cocktail dress.
* Creative black tie - men can go more modern with a tuxedo. Women wear long or short dress or evening seperate depending on the theme. Example - Texas Black Tie or Diamond and Denim.
* Semi-formal or after five - a tuxedo is not required nor a long dress.
* Business formal - same as semi formal except women opt for a more tailored dressy suit or dress.
* Cocktail attire - short elegant dress for her and dark suit for him.
* Informal - same as semi formal
* Festive attire or Holiday attire - choose looks with a bit of sparkle informal or semi formal
* Casual dressy - most anything except jeans.
* Casual - anything goes.

When in doubt ladies, you can never go wrong with the little black dress. You can dress it up or down depending on your jewelry, makeup and hairstyle. Know your audience and don't go overboard. Plan now and you won't be the diva in distress caught without the perfect party dress. Accentuate your positive and never leave home without a fabulously festive attitude.
Have fun!
Joyfully,
Chris

Love the details on what to wear for different parties. What are some of the touches you like to make for the "Sparkle" for holiday dressing?

Hi Lisa,

Thanks for your questions. This season is all about Sparkle but you don't want to try to out shine the tree. Like everything in life - it's all about balance. If you apply sparkle to your eyes, be more subltle with your cheeks and lips. If your clothing sparkles, tone down your shoes and jewelry.

Hair and body sparkles are not as popular as they were several years ago. It's more beautiful to transfer that sparkle to your lips with a beautiful lip gloss. Mascaras now contain a sparkle for the holidays. I love to see women draw attention to their eyes and not other parts of the body that no longer stand up to the test of time.

Whatever you decide to have sparkle and shine this season, be sure it is one of your best assets. Then go out and enjoy seeing old friends and making new ones.
Cheers!
